Athletes of the Week for January 8, 2018

Women’s Basketball

Kayla Patterson  —  NYU  —  Fairborn, OH (Fairborn)

NYU senior forward Kayla Patterson scored 23 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds to lead the Violets to a 76-64 win over visiting Brandeis University in the UAA opener for both teams. She pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and dished out a career-high four assists, while registering her fourth double-double in the last five games. Patterson shot 56.3 percent from the floor (9-for-16).

Men’s Basketball

T.J. Duckett  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Washington, DC (St. Anselm’s)

Case Western Reserve University senior forward T.J. Duckett averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, shooting 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the field. He totaled 15 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in just 20 minutes in the Spartans’ 94-63 victory over visiting Carnegie Mellon University. Earlier in the week, Duckett paced all scorers with 20 points and 16 boards, marking his sixth double-double of the season, in the Spartans’ 63-60 win at Oberlin College.

Men’s Fencing

Philip Shin  —  NYU  —  New York, NY (Stuyvesant)

Senior Philp Shin of NYU finished third in the 256-competitor Division I Men’s Foil at the North America Cup in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He teamed with Kyle Welch, Zohaib Mannan, and Michael Lee to earn the bronze medal in the 20-team Senior Team Men’s Foil event.


Raymond Jazikoff  —  NYU  —  South Plainfield, NJ (South Plainfield)

Senior 157-pounder Raymond Jazikoff won all three of his bouts by major decision at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He defeated opponents from Millikin University (9-1), Olivet College (12-3), and Heidelberg University  (12-1). Jazikoff improved to 27-4 this season with 16 bonus-point wins.


Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
