From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
Led by school record-breaking performances in the 4x200-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay, the Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team placed sixth at Saturday's All-Ohio Division III Championship at the Rike Center.
The Spartans totaled 42 points. The Univeristy of Mount Union took home the All-Ohio team title with 141 points, while Ohio Wesleyan University was runner-up with 127.
In the 4x200m relay, juniors Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) and Josh Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) along with sophomore Nathaniel Wahner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) and freshman Andrew Ibibo(Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay East) crossed the finish line in 1:30.76, placing fifth. The quartet's mark broke the previous CWRU record of 1:33.23 set just last weekend.
In the last event of the night, the 4x400m relay, Freeman, Wahner, junior Devon Belew (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) and sophomore Nico Ericksen-Deris (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) grabbed the team title when they stopped the clock in a school-record time of 3:26.74.
Also on Saturday, the distance medley relay posted a time of 10:29.47 as the team of Ibibo, Deris, sophomore Joe Ledger (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) and freshman Aidan DeSanto (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral) placed second.
Also on the track, freshman Sam Merriman (Middlesex, Vt/U-32) finished fifth in the 5,000m run in 15:33.00. Ledger grabbed seventh place in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.20.
In sprints, freshman Grant Mlack (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.57, while Belew took seventh in the 400m dash crossing the line with 51.62 on the clock.
In field events, senior captain Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) pole vaulted 4.80 meters (15'9") to finish third, and sophomore Graeham Heil (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) lifted himself over the bar in the high jump set at 1.85 meters (6'.75") for an eighth-place finish.
