From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
The Case Western Reserve University softball team concluded the 2018 season ranked sixth in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top-25 Poll, following Tuesday's NCAA Division III National Championship game.
The Spartans were ranked sixth in the final NFCA Top-25, a 16-spot improvement on their ranking from earlier in the regular season when they checked in at 22nd in the national rankings. This is the highest the team has ever been ranked in NFCA's final poll of the year. The NFCA has issued a top-25 since the start of the 1995 season.
In addition, junior Nicole Doyle was named to the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championship All-Tournament Team following Tuesday's championship game in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Doyle batted .333 (3-for-9) over the three games during the championship, including three doubles, one run scored and one run batted in.
The Spartans finished the 2018 season with a 38-12 overall record, including a 7-4 mark in postseason play. Case Western Reserve qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second time in program history during the campaign, and made its' first-ever appearance in the final rounds of the NCAA Championships. CWRU finished tied for fifth at the championships, which is the highest national finish for any team in Case Western Reserve University athletics history.
