The Washington University in St. Louis softball team had a pair of student-athletes named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team, as announced Thursday by the Association.
Senior pitcher/infielder Maggie Clapp and senior pitcher Anna McKee each picked up third-team at-large honors. McKee was also a second-team honoree a year ago.
Clapp, a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, recorded a 6-6 mark on the mound with a 2.62 earned run average with two shutouts and six complete games. She also hit .337 at the plate with five doubles, one homerun and team-leading 24 RBI.
Clapp registered a complete game in an 11-3 win over No. 5 Trine March 13, and tossed complete games in the final four starts of the season allowing three earned runs in 28 innings pitched. She ranked second in the UAA in shutouts and fifth in wins, and was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on May 7.
Clapp had a 30-24 career record with 2.11 ERA and a .335 batting average with 48 RBIs.
McKee, a second-team all-UAA selection, recorded a 10-6 record with 2.30 ERA with 11 complete games and two shutouts. She ranked second in the league in complete games and shutouts, third in strikeouts (71), fourth in wins and fifth in ERA.
McKee tossed a complete game in an 11-2 win over No. 16 Ithaca March 11, and had a pair of complete-game victories at Brandeis in a four-game sweep. She posted a 5-4 record with a 1.99 ERA in conference games, and was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on March 12 and April 30.
McKee recorded a 28-11 career record with a 1.99 ERA and a .233 batting average with five homeruns and 32 RBIs.
WashU posted a 16-14 overall record and finished third in the UAA with an 8-8 mark. The Bears had the 11th-best strength of schedule (.612) in NCAA Division III.
