University of Chicago women's basketball Assistant Coach Michelle Bilek was named of the Thirty Under 30 award winners from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), which recognizes 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches at all levels of the game.
Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
In her first season as the Maroons' lead assistant, Bilek helped UChicago – who stood ranked in both national polls all season – finish 19-7 overall and reach the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third straight season and eighth overall.
"I think Michelle is so deserving of this award not only for what she has done for us at Chicago, but what she has done over the course of her career," said UChicago Head Coach Carissa Sain. "She is meticulous and thoughtful and she has a wonderful ability to work for and with a variety of different people. She brings out the best in others, regardless of personality type, and has had success in a wide variety of environments.
"I learn a lot from Michelle every day and we are so grateful to have her as a part of this program."
Prior to her arrival at UChicago, Bilek spent a season as an assistant at University Athletic Association foe NYU and had a four-year stint as the Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA Division I Columbia University from 2013-17.
The Mount Prospect, Ill. native was a four-year letter winner for the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball squad, where she helped lead the Titans to a Final Four (2011) and then a national championship in 2012.
