Spartans Compete at the Youngstown State Icebreaker

Highlighting the Spartan performances on Saturday, graduate student Cassandra Laios finished second in the weight throw as the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team finished competition at the YSU Icebreaker in Youngstown, Ohio.

Finishing second in the event, Laios hit a mark of 16.90 meters. In addition, she also earned a fifth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.79 meters.

Also with strong performances for the Spartan women, junior Shahed Eid finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:12.42) and junior Samantha Kelts placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.52 meters.

Senior Olivia Newman finished 17th in the qualifying round of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.28, while sophomore Julie Hines placed 29th in 400-meter dash (60.97) and 41st in the 200-meter dash (27.37).
